Macau police link 131 counterfeit notes to illicit casino exchange

Macau’s Judiciary Police (PJ), the territory’s criminal-investigation agency, allege that a mainland man delivered 27 counterfeit HKD1,000 notes during an illicit HKD31,000-for-RMB26,598 exchange inside a casino. Officers said they found 131 counterfeit HKD1,000 notes on him and referred him to prosecutors on suspected aggravated fraud and passing-counterfeit-currency offences; guilt has not been established.

PJ opened a separate case into the counterparty’s suspected illicit exchange activity. The case links counterfeit cash distribution to the informal renminbi-to-Hong-Kong-dollar exchange infrastructure operating around Macau casinos, while remaining an allegation under investigation rather than a completed prosecution.
