Support scam exposes data risk across Hikari Systems network

Hikari Systems, a Japanese supplier serving pachinko businesses, said a fake browser warning led an employee to permit remote access to a work computer on 24 July. Cloud files potentially connected to 1,016 people were exposed: 830 business partners, 26 customers and 160 employees.

The incident shows how one compromised supplier account can transmit data risk across a broad business-to-business network. Hikari Systems said it had reported the incident to supervisory authorities and found no misuse or secondary harm as of its 8 September notice; that is the company's current finding, not proof that no data was copied.
